Kleine pg. 22

Summary

In Michael Kleine’s article “What Is It We Do When We Write Articles Like This One- and How Can We Get Students to Join Us?”, Kleine attempts to tell his audience how to properly write a paper and the correct process to follow to make your paper the best it can be. He does this by giving the audience helpful procedures to follow. Kleine argues that writing a research paper is more than just copying and taking information from one source and putting it directly into a paper with out truly understanding it. Kleine explains that a research paper has a long procedure to it and should be well developed. 

Synthesis

Kleine's article is very similar to the article Greene wrote. Kleine talks about how to properly write a research paper and Greene talks about framing an argument. They both give their audience ways to better their papers and procedures to follow to become a more complex writer.

Before you read

After looking through my syllabi for courses this semester, almost all of my courses require a researched writing. Right now, I imagine looking on the internet for research and using the library. To accomplish the projects I will need to have a main focus for the paper and frame my idea. Once I have done that I will make sure I have a good argument that I can support with factual information and not just opinions. 

Questions for Discussion

1. What Kleine is explaining to his audience lines up with what I was taught. At first I didn't know how to write a research paper, but during high school my english teacher taught me mostly all the procedures to follow that Kleine was explaining in his article.

3. Sources play an immense role in the research of Kleine. In my past research efforts sources used to be just copying the research I found and not evaluating or really analyzing it. I learned that this is the wrong way to write a research paper and was able to resolve my mistakes for the next time I would have to write a paper again. 

4. I would change how I analyze, evaluate, and synthesize my research. I will start to follow the procedures Kleine talks about in his article so that I can become a better writer.

Thoughts

After reading Kleine's article I found it to be extremely helpful because it gave his readers a lot of advice on how to better your writing. I found it fascinating to read and will definitely use his procedures and rules he provided next time I write a research paper.
